Who to blame for the events @Convo hall(Burnaby)?

edited March 2015 in General
It's not about only this semester. During the last few years studying @SFU, whenever I tried to study for my papers/exams during the last weeks of the semester, at least once/week I had to deal with noises coming from some random events happening right infront of the library @Convocation Hall.

I understand some people/group/clubs want to do some event and what not, but is it only me who thinks its bothersome, especially during the period when I am sure everyone would be busy writing their papers and preparing their exams? Is it not a common sense to be silent in library? Then why is it allowed to use speakers right infront of the library? Maybe I could understand if its the first half of the semester, as its more 'free' compared to the second half of the semester.

I guess there are not many options to create/throw parties @SFU, but that doesn't mean people who are @library has to suffer from it too, right?

Would it be wrong to expect them to at least (preferably not use at all) reduce the volume of the music, if it is not the essential part of the event?
For example, I still remember this random NBA basketball event few semesters ago (if not last semester). The music they were playing were loud, VERY loud. I wouldn't think playing BGM is a necessity to have basketball related events, why not reduce the volume, plz.

If it actually is an important event to many students, say, graduation ceremony, sure, I can understand it, but most of the events are not always those events that many people can relate to anyway.

I know I'm just QQing and posting this shit wouldn't change anything, but I just wanted to know if it was only me who thought people shouldn't be so easily be able to use loud speakers right infront of the library at Burnaby campus.

  • It's just you.
  • I never had any issues with it, nor have I heard anyone complain about it.
  • Buy some noise-cancelling earphones or headphones. And play some ambient music or white noise or other good music.

Skullycandy ones are pretty cheap on the lower-end.
  • @Lovely, you are not the only one. Maybe complain to the library - even if they can't do anything maybe they will offer some earplugs...?
