Minor in Communications?

edited February 2015 in General
I'm debating on doing a minor in communications to go hand in hand with my major in Engineering. A mentor of mine suggested this idea to me seeing that we're starting to learn more about communications on a technical aspect in my Engineering classes. I've not taken any communications courses before, and am thinking of taking CMNS 110 and 130 online this summer. Since I'm fairly new to the topic of Communications, can anyone give me some insight as to what topics are discussed in these two classes, and if it is recommended to take them online?

This may be a silly question too, but in upper division Communication classes, do you need to be an avid debater and participate actively in discussions during tutorials to get a good mark?

  • Nope! In upper level you just have deal with writting countless papers that can range from 12-20 pages  Of course, for any class participation is encouraged but it is not a determining factor in your grade at all.
  • If I were you, I wouldn't even bother with communications. If you want a minor, business is the best route to go.
