There's an important vote coming up on Build SFU. The initial referendum had a pretty bad turnout, and it's a pretty huge deal. So, y'know: vote. January 21, 1:30 p.m., West Gym. Basically, we either give or withhold approval for the SFSS to take out a $65,000,000 loan, without which they can't actually build.

Here's the official website for Build SFU:

  • I have to say, that given this big vote, there has been very little in my option from the Build sFU other than that blanket email and the one triangle banner near the book store.

I am of the opinion that they do not want many people to be informed or to go to the actual AGM and vote,

They don't seem to want students to vote, it more like they want people to stay uniformed and get this issue passed through and under the rug.

  • Hi teedee -- I would agree with you that so far Build SFU has proceeded without proper democratic process. That's why we're doing this information campaign. We're obviously partisan, but I hope you will get as much information as you can and vote as you see fit. Word-of-mouth can also have an impact.
  • On my way to lecture today, I noticed they student union sponsored a breakfast and were handing out cards, one lady gave me a card and made it sound like a fun event. That just for coming and voting I could get some free wings from the pub.

I think I made her mad, when I mentioned reading the No campaign on Sfu Reddit page, and then questioned why how this brand new buidling of the future would impact my life and time currently at sfu, other than the potential for more money to be paid to a seemingly defunct student union, unless you count pancakes?!

    She stopped and walked away.

Hey Teedee, did you get any pancakes?

I ask, because--sometimes, benevolence has its consequences
  • No, I didn't get pancakes.

I am a wee bit leary of "free" food. Aside from a serious peanut allergy, I am a true believer that nothing in life is "free". There is always a catch.

    Did you WWDM?
  • Yes, I saw that confession.

See nothing is life is free, other than some serious gastro issues.
