Retaking courses and Co-op

edited December 2014 in General
If I get a fail a course and retake it to make it better, will that affect my co-op opportunity?

  • I don't think so

It won't make too much of a difference, especially if it doesn't drastically impact your GPA. Employers get a transcript of your grades so they will see it, but they weigh work and volunteer experience more heavily than grades.
  • Depends on your situation, i.e. are you currently in the co-op program, or do you want to apply? If you haven't already applied, some programs have minimum GPA requirements which you must meet in order to be accepted. If you've already in the co-op program, though, then it depends on the employers. Some employers weight grades more heavily than others.
  • I haven't applied yet im in my first year and this is my first term. I heard you need to apply in advance of two terms before the working term, so do they like look at the cgpa when you apply or cgpa just right before the working term?

Yes, you apply two terms ahead of the semester you want to work in. One of those terms is for all the workshops you have to do and that stuff, then another term where you seek for the job position. They look at your CGPA from the term you start seeking.
  • If 2.7 CGPA is the requirement to get into co-op for Engineering Science, is that need when you apply or when you are seeking the job?

That is for when you apply. Employers will, however, get an up-to-date transcript of your grades so they will receive your most recent grades when you're a seeking student.
