Academic Dishonesty. Need Urgent Help!

edited October 2014 in General
So I've been accused of academic dishonesty.

Somebody stole my assignment and submitted it. The person who stole my assignment, admitted that I he stole it from me.
I didn't do anything wrong.

The professor is not willing to listen to me (he heard what I said, but it went in one ear, and out the other).
He wrote an official report and lied on it (knowing or unkonwlingly). He said that I and him stole the assignment from a 3rd person.
He's basically written a report and sent it to the registrar's office or whatever.

Is there suppose to be an official hearing on academic dishonesty? I need some place where I can prove my case.

Does anybody have any experience with this? What happens once the prof sends the offical letter? Where can I defend myself????

Any help would be really really helpful

  • wow that really sucks. whoever stole your assignment must be ashamed of himself. how did you get your assignment stolen? I am sorry to say this but I think it is also part of your fault not keeping your assignments safe and private. go talk to the counsellor.
  • Here this will help:

    https://www.sfu.ca/policies/gazette/student/s10-01.html

"19. If a student wishes to dispute the finding of fact of the
Instructor, the Chair of the Department or the Registrar, the student
may refer his or her case to the UBSD, in writing, stating the reasons
for the referral, within three weeks of the date of notification by the
Instructor, the Chair, or the Registrar."

Update: I appealed the case to the UBSD and won.

In the future, if anybody has a similar problem, I suggesting filing a report with the UBSD.

There is a full hearing on the matter, and you get plenty of time to present your evidence. There are 3 people on the UBSD panel, and give serious consideration the evidence.
  • Congrats :)
  • Awesome, congrats!
  • your professor is very disappointing, but glad to hear you won your case!
