Best place to eat on campus?

edited January 2014 in General
Are there any food gems on/near campus? Can't seem to find much that's great--just mediocre.

  • Right on the Mountain? Club Ilia at Cornerstone is all right, but not precisely student prices.  The rest is mainly food fair-ish.
  • Bathroom stall.
  • Between a girl's legs.
  • Vending machine.
  • If you have time (2 hour break at least), theres lots of places you can go

There are a few gems close by taking the 135...but I dont know since I usually bring my own lunch from home. Theres also places near Lougheed. Check out sites like dinehere and urbanspoon

But my favourite has to be Costco near Production. Decent priced fast food with $1.50 Big hot dog + drink and $4.19 for a large poutine
  • I also don't know since I also bring my own lunch from home and eat it in the bathroom stall by myself so no one bullies me and I can avoid sitting at the losers' table. #lifeishard Just kidding. I don't eat.

  • Opposite sex bathroom stalls are fun to eat in, if you catch my drift.
  • Finally. A new place. The best place. Guadalupe in the MBC
  • ^^prices are still up there, vegan lunch is the cheapest option at $6 but it's only Tues-Thurs 11:00am-2pm.
Cornerstone is your best bet on campus...then again bringing your mom's spaghetti is free!!!
  • Agreed. Veggie Lunch is decent; and it's affordable.

But all the meals in cornerstone I've had are either bland or just too greasy.

Guadalupe also offers their "ranch hand plate:" Rice and beans with a tomato salsa. And though I haven't tried them, they sell tacos, too, for pretty cheap. Personally, I'd say it's worth it to spend 9 dollars for their burritos. They're AWESOME. They even make their tortillas in house!

  • Anything you buy on campus is going to be more expensive than off-campus, including food. This comes with being on top of a mountain (yeah, uni on a mountain must have sounded creative, but it's completely impractical.) But if you can deal with the prices, I've found the following places to be decent with what they serve:

    Food:

Nature's Garden - good breakfast and soup.

The new Korean place in MBC - They do a pretty damn good tofu soup, other stuff looks okay but I haven't tried yet.

The Highland Pub - Pretty good burgers, nice and quiet around lunch time.

MacKenzie Cafe - Mediocre service, but all day breakfast. Their curry dishes are great when they're good, but horrid when they're not. It's really hit or miss. Questionable service though.

Timmy Ho's - I've found this to be the cheapest option. Go with either the chilli or their bagels. Maybe it's just me, but I think their sandwiches are gross.

Nester's - Their deli sometimes has some decent options.

    Drinks:

Pearl Fever - Good bubble tea, but be polite (just be a decent human being) and don't assume all the staff can speak Chinese or else you'll get shit service. A little on the expensive side, but go join the CSSA (probably don't show up to anything else of theirs haha) and get their membership card. I think it's like 15% off or something? But yeah, makes it worth it.

Starbucks - Obvious. My personal faves = Caramel Macchiato & Chai Latte & PSL & SB Doubleshot

Highland Cafe - I like their London Fog, best on campus. Their drip is also not too bad.

Highland Pub - I love studying here. Just sayin'

Timmy Ho's - I'd only drink their stepped tea. Coffee is weak and not too good...like, at all. French Vanilla is a good option, though, when you feel like hot chocolate (no good hot chocolate on campus, sadly. Let's petition for a Blenz).

Renaissance - So far the only thing I've like from them is the Hazelnut drip. Espresso drinks have been sub-par and the London Fog just doesn't compare to the Highland Cafe.
