Should I live in RES or off campus housing? and Tips for IAT ONE?

edited June 2014 in General
Hi~ :)
I got accepted to SFU IAT One program,
and I recently noticed that most of the classes are in Surrey campus.
But because this is my first year in Vancover ( I am from Ontario :] )
and I do not have much information about house rental stuff,
so I applied for residence.

Should I live in Res or should I look for off-campus housing?

Also, can anyone who studied IAT one give me some tips?
like something that I need to buy before head (computer and software maybe?)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  • You shouldn't live in RES at all. imho
    1. RES is pretty expensive, and if I'm correct meal plan is mandatory if you live on RES. $$$
    2. It takes around an hour to get to surrey campus from RES, and sometimes the bus is VERY crowded.

  • The res is location at Burnaby campus, it will take about an hour to get from burnaby campus to surrey campus.

I suggest finding a place near Surrey campus to live. Surrey campus is located near a bunch of tall residental buildings, so I don't think you'll have trouble finding a place to live.

Where in Ontario are you from? I've lived in Ontario as well, Mississauga to be precise.
  • Thank you both of you!!! I will start looking for rentals :)

    hehehe: I am from Markham
  • Also, I forgot to mention that Burnaby res is relatively expensive. It's about $800 a month.

Look for something around $500 a month like a shared apartment or house.
