Should I withdraw from my class?

edited May 2014 in General
I was planning on taking no courses in the summer but I decided to anyways (one course). I am having some health issues right now and I couldn't go to my classes due to the reason. I have to go and have a check-up and possibly undergo surgery to help with the problem. But, I am worried I might not be able to focus on my class and have a withdrawal on my transcript. Is it possible to retake the course next semester and replace the WD?

  • Yes, it is possible to replace to WD

  • If you are dropping the course due to medical reasons it might be worthwhile talking to an adviser and potentially withdrawing based on extenuating circumstances in which case you would get a WE.

Neither a WD or WE affects GPA, so when you retake the course your newer mark will be the one that counts. I believe they will both show on your transcript though.
  • They both stay on your transcript forever (even though they don't affect GPA) so WE would look better than WD if you can get a doctors note
