I only need to maintain a 70% to keep my acceptance?! What?

Hello everyone! I self submitted my marks to SFU a few months ago, and I had received a conditional acceptance a while ago. Yesterday, I received an email from SFU saying

"Congratulations! We are pleased to confirm our earlier offer of admission based on a review of your interim secondary school grades provided to us by the Ministry of Education.

Please don't forget to visit www.sfu.ca/newundergrads for important information on your offer of admission.
Again, congratulations on your achievement. We look forward to seeing you at SFU!

I clicked that link they sent me to read more information, and I stumbled upon something that confused me. It said

"All offers of admission are reviewed upon receipt of final grades. You will be able to start your studies at SFU in September provided you:

Successfully complete all required courses
Maintain an admission average of at least 70% (with a minimum final blended grade of 60% in English 12 and a minimum final grade of 60% in Math 11 or 12)
Graduate from high school"

Does this mean that if my average (which is 85% now) drops to the 70's, I'd still be able to keep my acceptance? I'm going into the Arts, so I thought I had to maintain an 85% by the end of the school year? I'm confused, is it 85% or 70%? 70% seems too good to be true.... they really let you slack off that much?

  • Yeah only need 70%, says so in the copy/paste from your email lol. They rarely take away a conditional offer, so yeah its usually alot lower than what youd expect. Unless you need 85 for scholorships, just enjoy your last bit of highschool.
  • At the end of the day, college education is a business. More students = more $$$
  • Curious: does this only apply to certain faculties? Because for science and business the required average is higher so I would expect them to maintain the equivalent average as well?

Not sure what you're taking but I really wouldn't suggest completely slacking off even though your acceptance is pretty much guaranteed. You'll regret it in Calculus and those types of courses where your life will be much better with solid foundations.
