BUEC 232-D200 Surrey Campus Exchange

edited April 2014 in General
Hi guys

I'm currently on the waitlist of this BUEC 232 class.I'm at about 29/50. This Surrey class is quite important for me, so I would like to exchange my another class STAT 270 with someone already enrolled in BUEC 232. The STAT 270 is held on Burnaby campus on MWF 9:30-10:20 in RBCIMAGTH. As far as I know, for computing science major, these two class cover similar materiel and both fulfill CS major requirement. However, according to last three semester's GPA data, STAT has 18.54% A, which is about 6% higher than BUEC 232 (12.88%). So maybe STAT is a better choice for some people.

If there is someone could kindly do me this favor, please contact me via sfu email: wwa53 (at xxx.xx, you know that). And I'm glad to pay some compensation for your kindness too :)

Best,

Wei

  • Just for the record I am under the impression that STAT 270 is the more difficult course. I imagine both are curved though, so it could be business applies a more aggressive curve and gives out less A's.

And you are right, 270 is the actual CS requirement. Some kids just take 232 because it fits into their schedule better/they think it will be easier.

    Good luck finding someone
  • According to SFU GPA Report (2013), STAT 270 has more A and less B than BUEC 232. However, A+B of 270 is same as A+B of 232.
  • Stat 270 is more difficult. It just has a more lenient grading curve.

    STAT
    270
    18,5% 27,8% 30,1% 20,3% 3,2%

    BUEC
    232
    12,9% 38,1% 38,8% 9,2% 1,0%
    First column is A's (A+, A, A-), second column B's, 3rd, C's, 4th D's or less, 5th % withdrawls

Keep in mind Buec 232 is a 4 credit course. Comp 275 (which is mandatory) is another 4 credit. Which means if you take 1 more 4 credit, you effectively get rid of 1 class (4 credit * 3 = 12 credits vs 3 credit * 4 = 12 credits). So something like Math 150 (which is "easier" than Math 151 since it includes review, and 1 extra teach time) and you can finish sooner.

Stat 270 also has a lot more D's and failures, so if it's a pre-req, you are screwed.
  • Thank you for your detailed data and analysis.

I just want enroll in BUEC 232 Surrey campus :)
  • Is this just because MJ is teaching it? Keep in mind that Lorene is a very good professor and given that you're 29th on the WL, you probably won't get it.
Go with Lorene, you will most likely have MJ for 336
  • I'm currently about 15th on the WL.
