please~~~ help

edited March 2014 in General

I am just about to finish my last BOT. I am taking courses this summer, and I really want to do well this time.

I am thinking about taking 4 courses. would distance course be hard and bring my GPA down? I am good at handing things on time, and I am pretty organized. would distance course be right for me? how do tests work? is it open book? or see someone?

I was just wondering if there are any courses that don't bring your GPA down.

I want to think this summer semester as a second chance at SFU and start with brining in GPA up.

will u help me? or suggest anything?

  • Take 3 courses. Don't do any distance courses. You usually have to go to campus for the tests. Speak to the advisor about which ones to take.
  • I thought since all my friends are going on a trip, I thought I would focus on school in summer.

so you think taking four courses is a risk?

I found some courses that have good "rates"

    1. Arch 131 (distance) with Dennis Sandgaathe

    2. HSCI 214 (lecture) with Elliot Goldner

    3. HUM 101W (lecture + tut) with David Mirhady

    4. POL100 (lecture + tut) with Losanathan Masilannant

    5. SA 150 (distance) with Ann Travers
  • I've been on academic probation twice. I know how this goes. You're all motivated now but it'll get overwhelming fast. Just do three. Trust me. If you can get good marks in three then you've recovered. I have no idea about those classes but take courses in subjects you know you're good at. And I would really stay away from distance Ed. It's too hard to keep up when you don't have to.
  • I would just take POL 100 & SA 150 to boost my GPA up if I were you
  • thank you soo much guys for all your time and good advices. they really mean a lot to me. I was so nervous and anxious and all stressed out from this pressure. I will take three courses!!! lol
thank you so much again! if you have any more advices or recommendations, please~~~~please~~tell me.:)
  • Or take CRIM 104 distance education.

    Tutorials - 20%
    Term Paper - 20%
    Mid-Term Exam - 30%
    Final Exam - 30%

It has online lecture and tutorial videos for notes, which the exams are based on. Only need the textbook for the short (5 - 6 page) essay. Exams are 10 M/C, 5 T/F, 5 definition, and 1 S/A question each. Got an A in that class just by memorizing the notes and putting a reasonable effort into the paper.
  • oh really? who was the instructor? do I go to shcool for the exams?
  • Here are a few courses I did some research and decided they will be easy. Keep in mind I hate reading and I think writing papers is how good you know to bullshit, therefore I am not a human type of guy. I like more 'sciency' courses where I know if my answer is correct or not.

    Stat 100
    Crim 104 Distance
    Educ 100

I also heard the following are easy but didn't took them myself:
Hist 106 (w/ Adam Robert Hill)
    Educ 465 Distance
    Phil 110
  • ok, here is my advice

don't enroll in a class that someone told you it's an easy class (this dropped my GPA in first semester )

find course interest you + read the course outline + the prof rate at ratemyprofessor.com

avoid courses has over 40+ students, especially the courses that required for major. EX: POL101,..etc. the more students in the class, the hard you get a good grade

introduction course are usually hard to get good mark in.

I personally find, most of 200 level for art and social science faculty are easier to get a good grade, compare to 100 level course

go to the prof office hour , let them know you and if you could tell them you are working hard because you have a CGPA problem but don't ask them for free grade.

re-take courses you got D or C- in them.
