Do you want to get involved?

edited January 2014 in General
Hey!

The SFSS Elections have been announced and are coming up soon! It's a great way to get involved, and if elected, you will be responsible one of 16 people responsible for a multi-million dollar organization. All undergraduate students are members of the student society and pay a semesterly fee, so involvement in student government is both a right and responsibility!

This year the SFSS did many things including a huge Fall concert in Convocation Mall (with another coming up in April). Who knows what will happen next year, why not have a say in it?

If you have any questions about the nomination process, campaigning, or just more information in general about positions, feel free to contact the Independent Electoral Commission at elections@sfss.ca or find us on Twitter and Facebook (@SFSSElections). Our goal is to get more people involved this year, so please help us make that happen by spreading the word! UBC has incredible student involvement and interest in student governance - we need to step up our game SFU!

    No one cares

SFU is going to be run the way the top people in the food chain wants it to be run
  • Sorry Flash, I should've clarified -
The SFSS is not SFU. The SFSS is separate from SFU, and it's supposed to represent student interests. The Society has had a huge impact on student life, but it's not something that can be addressed in a small blurb on TalkSFU. You have to be realistic about what you want to change and impact, though.

Saying no one cares is a bit of an exaggeration, but you're right in identifying the problem that not enough people care. Thanks for pointing this out, and maybe people reading this will take it into consideration when they're debating whether or not their participation would make a difference.
  • Good job posting this! I don't think many students know about the upcoming elections at sfu!
  • "multi-million dollar organization business"
  • Seriously you guys need to explain the role of the school senate better before making campaign promises and asking people to vote for you.
  • I will vote for anyone if I get a $90,000 cheque for tuition and living expenses, crap load of privileges (private limo to and from SFU, get my own VIP lounge with beers, giant flat screen TV, straight As without exams or papers)
  • I would definitely recommend getting involved with things like SFSS while your doing undergrad, it's a great opportunity
  • Wanted to pop in and mention that the voting and posters that happened earlier this week was for SFU Senate, which is entirely separate from the SFSS Elections.

For those interested, nominations for our elections start on Feb 17th (right after reading break).
  • Yeah I immediately deleted those past two Senate e-mails.
  • @Simon Do you mean being an executive or just like volunteering and helping out?
