Scholarships

edited December 2013 in General
First time I am going to try to apply for scholarship (GPA finally over 3.5)

Last time I checked a bunch of scholarships required either to be female, study in a specific area, be minority, be aboriginal, etc.

Are there any scholarships for white male ppl? Should I go to the finance advising department and can they tell me what scholarships I would be eligible?  Also what is the due date for the spring term?

  • Somewhere in SIS there's a list of scholarships you can apply to, I think those are pretty much all of it. Unfortunately, there's really not much for CS. I guess it also depends if you do any community work but if all you have is grades (like me), I've only gotten the open scholarship and the alumni scholarship every term and that's pretty much it.
  • Lmao scholarships for WHITE MALE PEOPLE hahahahahaahahahahaha. Yes because white male people are such an underprivileged minority with a miserable history. We need exclusive scholarships to assist them in this social race.

@csguy What is the criteria for the alumni scholarship you're talking about?

Good luck getting those scholarships with 3.5 GPA though, I've been getting 3.5 GPA for the longest time and applied every semester and didn't get shit. Not even bursary. Financial advisor isn't much help, they'll just show you how to look at the scholarship list yourself. Google the due dates, it's in the deadline calendar.

Also, to be qualified for the open scholarship, you will need at least a 3.67.

"Scholarships valued at $500 are available annually, in any term to full-time undergraduate students based on academic standing."

No idea what the minimum GPA is although it's probably higher than 3.5
  • Yeah I think for the open scholarships you need to get at least a 3.7 to even be considered. And then you have the open so I don't really see the point in them saying its 3.5
  • You automatically get the open scholarship at 3.67, assuming you meet the credit requirements (both in total and in your previous term.)
  • Because 3.5 is when you can apply to ALL scholarships. Not concerning open scholarship, although you still need 3.5 GPA in the previous term but 3.67 CGPA if I recall correctly.
  • Sorry, I should have clarified. I meant that you probably won't even be considered for the minimum 3.5 GPA scholarships unless your gpa is around 3.7 and at that point you're most likely getting the open scholarship too.
  • @csguy

just curious, because I've never gotten the alumni scholarship yet but have gotten the open scholarship, what's your cGPA?
  • @GRP

Hmm that's odd.. Maybe the cGPA they want is much higher? I'm at 4.09 right now and if I remember correctly, I was given the alumni scholarship every term I applied.
  • What's the value of the open scholarship? 500$?
  • The open scholarship pays by credit hour, so the more classes you take, the more you get.  However, the rate changes semester to semester.
  • So how much is per credit hour? Any place where you can find out?
  • Last semester it was $90. For a bunch of semesters before that it was $70. I don't know of anywhere obvious that it is posted online. It might be included somewhere in the Senate minutes.
  • For alumni scholarship you need a high gpa/cgpa, I used to receive it when my gpa was above 3.9, once it dropped to 3.8 I never received it again.

@csguy, 4.09 is impressive!!! what year are u?
  • How much is alumni?
  • @KingdomOfJoy
