Minimum grade C- pre-req

edited December 2013 in General
So I just found out that I got a D in CHEM 122. I know that upper division chemistry courses require a min. of C-.

Does this mean I have to retake this course again? Can I make appeal to the advisor? I've already registered for CHEM 281 and MBB 221 for next semester, both which requires CHEM 122 as a pre-req. Does this mean that these 2 will be automatically dropped?

:(

  • Gotta retake it. You will have to drop the courses. 281 is fucking hard, if you did crap in 122 you will probably fail 281. No joke. You need to know your shit for 281.
  • You can get a pre req waiver form and see if the prof will let you take the course. It depends on the prof, you may or may not be able to take the courses
  • @iStudent What are the common justifications for waiving a pre-req that are successful?
  • I have had prereqs waived for upper division courses before. My justification was that I had some prior experience with the prerequisite material and that I would take responsibility for learning anything else I need to do in order to complete the course work on my own.

Also sometimes the prepreqs just aren't that relevant to the actual course, in which case the prof may be willing to waive them.

I would see a prof being less likely to waive a prereq that someone got a D in though, since the D seems to suggest they may not posses the prerequisite knowledge. Also I would imagine it would be harder to get prereqs waived for lower division courses since many of those prereqs are there to give "structure" (by way of defining a order in which courses should be taken) to the program. Plus if you are in your first few years I'm not sure why you couldn't just go take the prereq if you want the course so bad.
  • When you go talk to the advisor/prof, make sure to have a lot of tears on hand. You need to appeal emotionally to him/her to get him/her to let you through.

They always fall for the good old "my parents are dying, my friends have abandoned me, and I lost my job" trick while you have tears all over your face on the ground begging. Trust me, it works great.
  • @Ryan Yeah and a lot of lower division pre-reqs are useless but really easy and good GPA boosters so I don't see any reason not to take them.

@Kevin_CMNS lmao. if that's true, that's hilarious. Probably helps to be hot with your titties out and giving a hj too though.
