Passing a class

edited December 2013 in General
I tried to find the information on Google/SFU Department sites and I couldn't find the answer anywhere...What is considered a pass? I think a friend of mine told me it was a C+, but I could be mistaken.

PS. If it is a C+, then that's ridiculous: a pass should be a C- and up, and a fail should be a D or an F. That would be so much simpler.

  • It depends. Technically a D is a pass in the sense that you get credit for the course. In order to use a course as a prereq though you often need at least a C-.
  • C- is a pass. D is a technical pass too if that course is not a pre-req for any other course.

Still not sure if you can use the D towards a class that is required as per your program calendar (so for example MACM 201 is a required course for computing, but it's not a pre-req for any other courses).
  • D counts as a pass and gives you credit for the course. You need a C- if you want to use the class as a prerequisite.
  • Nice. That means D would be enough for me when I decide to take macm 201. That course is such a drag.
  • Macm 201 really isn't that bad. It's alot different than 101 except a bit more on combinatoric stuff. My favorite course I've ever taken is actually macm 201.
  • D is 50% mark so it's a pass
  • @112233 WHAT FAVORITE?! :O
  • The class I'm talking about is not a pre-req...It would be for my degree. So a D would be acceptable in that regard?
  • If you don't need to use this class for another class then yes D is enough (besides your GPA taking a plunge)
  • Or you could just do your actual best and bump up your grade instead figuring out the minimum you need for the final to pass the course.
  • ^^ain't nobody got time on that.
  • But the time and energy you spend stressing and figuring what you need could've been used for studying lol ijs
  • Great, thanks Flash (:
