Calculus at SFU vs Langara

edited November 2013 in General
I was wondering if anyone had any experiences taking Calculus I at Langara, and then Calculus II at SFU? Was it much harder? I'm planning on transferring to computing science at SFU, but can't decide whether to finish everything at Langara to keep the GPA up (since computing science transfer admission is only on 3 courses from a small list of math and cmpt courses,) or transfer to SFU and then transfer internally to computing science.  Thanks!!

  • They will be the same. I took calc 2 twice at both kwantlen and sfu and they were identical. In fact i found it easier taking at sfu since the grades were scaled. The curriculum will be exactly the same, just as the curriculum for calc 1 is the same for both schools. Sfu won't be any more difficult than langara just because it's sfu. When When you transfer they also will look at your cgpa.
  • Thank you! Are you sure that they'll look at the cgpa? I'd be stoked if they did, but for some reason I thought they base it solely off of the 3 courses for comp sci.
  • Im 99.9% sure they look at both. I emailed the advisor asking about getting a minor and she said I needed a 2.5 cgpa for a minor as well as the 3 required math/cmpt courses. So I would imagine there is a cgpa requirement for a major as well. You could always email the advisor.
  • Awesome! Thanks for the help!! Appreciate it, gave me a lot of relief haha
