SFU Business internal transfer from Arts

edited November 2013 in General
I am currently in the Arts faculty, but wish to transfer into business. After taking the 9 core courses my GPA is 2.95. The admission average for Fall 2013 was 3.07.

Does this mean the people who applied in the fall semester to this program had an average of 3.07 and above?
Does this mean if you get slightly below the 3.07 average mark, you will not get in?

Can someone please explain?

Thanks!!

  • 1. pls stop writing in that font
    2. you are not going to be accepted with such a weak gpa, retake some of the 9 to boost it if you really want to get into beedie
    3. you shouldn't feel safe being just above the 3.07, it should be rising higher in the upcoming semesters
    4. if you cant even manage to get a B avg in such easy courses, perhaps pursuing a BBA is not the right choice for you
  • Why does Al Capone need a business degree? He's the King of Chicago, surely he knows what he's doing....except paying taxes

    @statsbrah123 LMAO hahahahaha.

I guess that's what you get automatically for being a wannabe gangster hahaha lol. But yeah man gotta bump up that GPA unless you're an amazing person who's been involved with a lot of shit and can shine on the BBA (broad-based application, not bachelor's of business admin).

And I agree, you should learn to do your taxes first before pursuing business. Also the Prohibition ended so you don't really have any business anymore or any product to sell.

    And y u using dat font. stopbrah123.
  • bump.

So is a 3.07 the cutoff, or the average of all the people who applied? Like did 50% of the people get above that gap and 50% below that gpa?

"I was sentenced for tax evasion. My GPA is too low for Business, I sometimes wish I could be Asian"

  • ^^Maybe he is Asian, you know wannabe gangster hahahahaah

Also @istudent killing people's hopes and dreams is what universities do best

  • @AlCapone

Essentially what they do is allot a certain # of seats to transfer students each semester. Then they take all the applicants, line them up in GPA order from highest to lowest then basically cut off at their amount of seats offered. It has been fluctuating around 3.10 for the last few years but actually trending downwards.

They will allow an appeal process if your GPA is a few hundredth's of a point below the required...but not when it's over a tenth of a point.

Usually students re-take the 2 arts courses required to up the GPA, but if you did terribly in accounting for example I would try to eliminate the lowest grades that are pulling you down.

If you just can't pull your GPA up...I would recommend not wasting anymore time or money trying...maybe a minor? Or archaeology? the world could always use more bone dusters
  • @defenderofawesome lmaoooo hahahahahahaha that was an awesome answer. bone duster hahahah or be a boner duster if you can't make it into archaeology either lmao
