late enrollment date?

edited November 2013 in General
hi

I got a late enrollment date which is nov 20. I have already planned the courses to take.
I just checked on sis to check if my courses are still available and..

most of them are full!!

they are only first year courses of computer science and I need those courses as prereq.
none of them are electives.

I am on 3rd semester in sfu and I really want to move on in my major.

how should I deal with this? any suggestions?

  • are you sure you selected the right semester on sis? course selection practically just started. i'm in my final semester in CS at SFU and I don't think there's ever been a semester where I couldn't get a course I wanted because it was full.
  • Get used to it
  • Don't get excited about your schedule, wait till the day before then pick your courses or you'll just be disappointed.
  • @EricJ That's impossible. Hard to believe.
  • Whine to the adviser, see if they'll let you in....if not take any other electives, get them over with til you got 60 credits, then declare your major and vola, you'll be bumped up in the enrollment list.
  • If it's your third semester, then you're at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to registration.  As @whydo mentions, grab as many credits as you can and that will bump you up the list.
  • I have also never had any problems enrolling in computing courses over my four years at SFU. Eric appears to be right on this one. Some currently still open first year computing courses:

CMPT 120 with 150 seats available
CMPT 125 with 111 seats available
CMPT 150 with 142 seats available

Just make sure you are looking at Spring 2014.
  • Yea the only cmpt course iv had difficulty getting into was cmpt 275
