New social networking website @ SFU (Friends, Study Groups and more)

Hi everyone! 

Just letting you know that a website has been launched at SFU that will help you do the following:

-Sell Textbooks
-Find Study Groups
-Find like-minded friends
-Find people with similar interests
-Find group members for a class project
-Collaborate on projects
-Find events on campus
-Find tutors

The website hopes to make social networking more efficient!  This website is NOT like facebook.

The website was just launched 2 weeks ago, so it's still developing a user base, but we hope it will one day improve SFU's social experience for all students.

    Thanks for you kind words. We launched the site on club days and signed people up there.  However, despite this initial success, we still need a much larger user base for it to help connect people as intended.

    @lakerfanatic It's not a forum! It's kind of like craigslist but without the categories and you search what you want. For instance if you are looking to go on a date with someone (assuming me) you would search "date" or "romance" in Subject.

    I'm with @lakerfanatic don't really like the layout.  Would be better if there is categories kind of like Craigslist, but with categories catered to SFU (clubs, tutoring, studying, textbooks, parties, etc.).  Even if you want to keep the long string of posts as a main, I can't see it hurting the site to even have a sidebar of categories that can be used to narrow down posts. I'd rather browse for info than search for it.  Just my 2 cents.

    ^I agree with EZC. A lot of times I catch myself browsing craigslist ads in specific categories instead of actually searching for something. For instance like I'll check out the "free" or "electronics" sections to see good deals. On SkaleFree I might check out "orgies study groups" and see what's available. More traffic this way :P

    Could always keep Most Recent Findposts on the frontpage as EZC said as long there are categories as well.

    Hey everyone!

    Thanks for the feedback!  I have made some changes based on your feedback, but first I would like to make a couple points.

    I would like to start by saying that the search engine is flexible enough to be used to "browse categories".

    For example, if you type in "study" and press search, you get all the posts that have the keyword "study" in them, which is essentially like clicking on a "study" category link.  From there, you can browse the search results to find what you're looking for or add another criteria to narrow down the results further.

    Using a search engine rather than predetermined categories is meant to give the user the flexibility to determine/customize the category themselves.  For example, if I type in "MATH 157", I get a category of all the posts related to that course, from friendship to study groups to textbooks.  

    With that said, I have implemented some new changes which I think is a nice compromise.  Now when you double click the subject field, a list of predetermined categories pops up.  If you then push search, you can browse all the posts related to that category only.  This is almost identical to clicking a category link except it still has the flexibility of the original search engine concept.  

    Thank you for your feedback as you have already helped improve the site.  More feedback is always welcome! 

    I have one more question for you guys.  What categories do you think we should have?

    Any others?  I know BeAn wants an "Orgies" category.  We can consider that at a future date.  lol

    @Lucid Really awesome! I think this site is gonna be a huge hit and get big and other universities/colleges will copy :P You should put umm escort services, or something more feasible like dating. LOL

    @Simon Well they should!!! This site has been running for a while and has been really helpful. More students need to know about it!

    jk. but yeah I seen a lot of skalefree.net poster clipping things all around campus on pillars and shit. pretty cool.

    I actually got in trouble for some of those posters.  Apparently we shouldn't post up on concrete or glass surfaces.  I tried not to spam them, but I guess I did break the rules a couple times.  lol

    @Lucid How did they know it was you though lol :P Glass I understand, but concrete? Are they scared the tape is gonna rip some of the cement off or something. I think spamming was the only way to get some attention. Because the posters were kind of vague tbh but since you spammed people's curious turned on and you got more traffic.
