Phone Carriers

edited September 2013 in General
Okay. I've been with Bell and I get no service in areas along the Saywell lounge some AQ 31xx classes so along the mckenzie cafe area and the classes in educ building. I'm tired of it. Can anyone from their own experience tell me which carriers are fine in these areas or is fine all around campus? There's been a lot of carriers around campus this year so i just want some advise. Please tell me from your own experience. And I really dont need to see those tower maps. Thanks.

Bell is the worst of the big 3 (though all 3 being pretty bad).  I'd say go with Rogers.  They're not amazing, but much better than Bell and usually a bit better than Telus.  I've never had any problems with them anywhere on campus, apart from rez.  Pretty much anything but Bell.
  • I have no problems with telus up the mountain. I also get much faster Internet than my mom who is on rogers.
  • Koodo Mobile. I have reception no matter where I ago, except under the SkyTrain tunnels at Granville and Burrard. But it could be just my phone, because it's not a smartphone.
  • I don't think any phone gets reception there. Same with the tunnel area at columbia.
  • Yeah there too. I get like 1 bar about 5 seconds from leaving the tunnel and near the escalators at Granville.
  • haha thanks. my dad actually uses koodo, and I had thought of dragging him around campus and see how well his phone would work. why not just take his phone you ask? he's more attached to his apple products than anything else lol. so Wind and Mobilicity are no go's? I never actually considered them until they had booths at sfu and thought they might be have improved a bit.. anyone have Wind or Mobilicity as carriers care to give an opinion. oh and there's also this new phone carrier called phonebox... but imagining how the carrier name "phonebox" is gonna appear on my upper left bar of my iphone.. it was a totally NAHHH
  • Koodo is owned by Telus.  It really depends what you use your phone for.  The biggest problem with the smaller carriers is they often don't work well or at all outside major cities.  So it might depend on where you live and where you are going to use it.  Mobilicity is in financial trouble right now.  If they don't get bought up soon, expect them to break up or go bankrupt.
  • I would stay away from mobilicity personally. They are up for sale and could change in the not to distant future.
  • You might want to have a look at something like:
