Am I the only one who hasn't had ANY of their classes posted to WebCT/Canvas?

edited September 2013 in General
Usually classes are posted by now, in the past I've always had classes the morning of the first day, if not earlier. I'm waiting to decide which classes to drop/switch

  • Go to the top of Canvas and there will be a link called "Courses", hover your mouse over it and you will see all your courses there.
  • Yeah do what beanbean said, that threw me off because I'm used to the courses being listed on the front page like WebCT, but if not, I still have two classes not posted on either yet, so they should be up any time now
  • Are any classes still using WebCT?  I thought it was phased out this semester.
  • @lakerfanatic I don't think anyone has, but I'm sure you'll get up to speed and get used to it soon it's pretty simple. Let me know if you need any personal help with it like an orientation session :)

I like how you can PM other students in your class lol I fuck with my friends a lot and hopefully I can troll the shit out of other peer students I don't even know.
  • I wonder how much it cost to move from WebCT to Canvas? And how much the new SFU website cost. Although the new one is wayyy better than the old SFU website. Finally at least trying to get on UBC's level. n00bs

Probably cheaper than when SFU got its new logo.

UBC used to have a terrible website.  Couldn't find any info.  Actually, one of the reasons I choose SFU over them.  So it's more like UBC finally getting up to SFU's standards.
  • Nu uhhh when I applied to UBC it was soo much nicer and smoother design and a much better student information system. When I went to SFU website I was like -_- and then the SIS was shit lol
  • I preferred the old website. Then again maybe I just got used to how to find things.

@Beabean aren't you just starting your second year?  Believe me, UBC had a bad website - dead ends everywhere.  The biggest criticism I had of UBC was their admin. Even if you phoned in, you never got the info you were looking for.  For its size, SFU has always been run better.
  • @ezc Okay, well that doesn't negate the fact that UBC had a far better website and SIS than SFU when I started. So SFU's was still shit when UBC's was good, which makes SFU getting on UBC's level.
  • You're exaggerating, SFU's wasn't that bad before.  They've just changed the aesthetics a little bit, but the organization is the same.  It's not like it was circa. 90's or something.

imo it was soooo bad and ugly af. I remember going to it I was like wtf is this shit. It looks slightly better now and more simplified but they could have done better with the organization because you're right, it's exactly the same. They just try to give it a more streamlined design but it only looks that way.
  • @ezc I think some individual courses are still in WebCT, but this will be the last semester for them.  Everything's on Canvas come 2014.
  • Thanks, Annie.  I always thought WebCT was better than many people gave it credit for, though it had some noticeable flaws.  I had Canvas last semester and they've made some small improvements by the end of the semester.  I think Canvas has promise as long as they're willing to update it regularly.
  • I had no problems with WebCT either, Canvas is like the exact same to me and does the same thing so it's whatever for me lol.
  • Except WebCT wouldn't let you open more than one tab at once which drove me nuts
  • It let me... Use google chrome bruh. Or update Java.
