edited July 2013 in General
hi,

I'm considering transferring into the cmpt sci program, but wanted to get some input on the level of difficulty of the program and its courses to transfer into the program? how hard is CMPT 126 and MACM 101?

thanks

  • If you aren't good at math, then yea it's hard.
Depends on the person. If you can think logically, pick things up quickly, and solve problems then you'll do fine. In my 3rd year of cmpt and i'm doing alright. The most important thing tho is that you like it. If you don't, like any other subject, then it will be difficult for you.
  • How easy computing is really depends on the person. For one there are a number of lower division math courses you have to get through. Then there are all the actual computer courses. Programming is generally something that comes easier to some than others. If it comes easily to you comp sci isn't really all that difficult. If it doesn't though you will have to work a lot harder at it.

Most find macm 101 to be hard. Then CMPT 126 will often have kids who get it almost immediately and find it super easy, and kids who don't who then struggle.
  • Take 120 first and see if you like it. I suggest taking 120 and then 125 instead of 126 if you don;t have any previous programming experience
  • macm will terrorize you in your sleep. not too bad though, some classes get scaled so it's really not that bad. its a lot of logic/math
  • did i mention it's really not that bad. do the transfer bro.
  • CMPT 126 was pretty easy for me. MACM 101 was a difficult at times and I had to study a lot for the exams. Ended up getting a B+ in both courses though.
  • thanks for your help!
  • stay the hell away from ANNE (cmpt-225)
