Important Re Bursaries

edited June 2007 in General
NOTE -

Beginning Fall 2007 SFU Financial Aid will no longer let you apply for a bursary unless you have a student loan. In particular international students are being advised to prove they have "high financial need".

    Interesting!

    Bursary applications bother me because they assume that if you can manage to apply for everything, you are okay financially. When really, it's just the fact that I've learned to manage what little money I DO have, and if an emergency popped up, I'd be screwed. It's a joke... Having $5 left at the end of the month, as well as the worry that if you lose your job you'd have to quit school to make ends meet, isn't exactly wonderful!

  • ^ :O I know who you are now!!!! Blondie!!!!

    I think priority is given to the SFU students who have kids or some shit and live on their own.
  • Holy shit bump from the ages.
  • This is also no longer applicable. SFU reinstated the pre-2007 rules in 2009.
  • I got a bursary ^.^
  • Yeah GOOD JOB @lakerfanatic bringing up historical threads.

    @mxc how much?
  • Yep I didn't apply for a student loan yet I got them
  • ^Or you could just move in with me and I can provide for you and support you and cook and clean for you. And do your homework (possibly).
  • Well can you ask him to move out.
  • @lakerfanatic Just make the personal letter convincing and make yourself sound desperate and poor, you should be fine....
  • i have a student loan alrdy, then I applied for a bursary, i got close to $1300
  • @Whydoihavetoregister What personal letter? The application only assesses your resources/needs.

    @MXC HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
  • I gave them the information and they gave it to meeeeeeeeeeeee, I probably made myself look piss poor though.
  • How is that possible... Were your student loans maxed out?
  • How is that possible... Were your student loans maxed out?
  • yes i think they were maxed
  • wait what do u mean maxed out?
    I mean i took the most they could fund me for the semester
  • Yes that's what I meant. Ah that makes sense now. You must be a business student.
  • Yes that's what I meant. Ah that makes sense now. You must be a business student.
  • Science
  • How the hell did you max out your student loans. Are you taking 12 courses or something lol cuz max student loans is like 10k per year
  • Well I took 14 credits in Fall and 15 credits in Spring and now 14 credits this summer about to finish 1st year

    yeah if u include living costs

    probably more than that actually
  • Ah I see. Yeah living on your own is expensive. Probably 50-60% of expenses nowadays.
  • wtf!? that's sooooo cheap
  • Lol $300. I thought that was the total. A dumpster behind McDonald's isn't even that cheap in Vancouver.
  • You can always live with me if $300 is too much though. You can sleep on the bed and I'll sleep on the floor beside you and tuck you in at night and read a bedtime story for free.
  • Can I get that deal? :D
    where do u live?
