If taken cmpt 125,126,or 128 then you may not take CMPT 130 for further credit

edited July 2013 in General
Ok, I took cmpt 126, macm 101, and math 150 in spring 2013 for internal transfer into the software systems major program. But I just noticed that the program requires cmpt 130 and cmpt 135 to be completed as of fall 2012 for lower division requirements. Should I take these courses cmpt 130 and then cmpt 135 this year? I also got a C in cmpt 126 which im not proud of and I feel like redoing it by taking cmpt 130. And why dont you get credit for taking cmpt 135  if you have taken cmpt 126?? That makes no sense. Please help

  • CMPT 126 = CMPT 130 + CMPT 135.

If you want to redo the courses, do CMPT 126.
  • Yea, you're going to have to do cmpt 126 if you want to redo. Also, I believe you'll need to appeal for cmpt 130 and 135 to use 126 instead. You'll need to talk to an advisor about those courses. I don't think you are allowed to take 130 instead of 126, once you have already completed 126
  • Cmpt 126 isnt really cmpt 130 + 135 imo, cmpt 130 and 135 were specifically designed to be taken in order, whereas cmpt 126 is just 125 where the prof assumes you may or may not have taken 120. In fact, when I took cmpt 130, we were crosslisted with cmpt 128.
  • . how does two courses = 1? retarded...
  • 126 is 125. They're taught as the same class.
  •  Ok I found another post that had a similar problem.

"Thanks guys. I just got off LiveHelp this afternoon. If anyone is curious or might be in this situation too, the impression was that it looks to be similar to a "repeat".
The higher grade will have the credits + gpa count, while the lower one will have the credit + gpa omitted."

However, SFU needs to change cmpt 135 . its so stupdi why would it be equivalent to cmpt 126?? That is outrageous

135 is the surrey equivalent to 125 which is the same as 126. They teach the same stuff but with different languages. And they only recently changed surrey cmpt 125 to cmpt 135.
  • ok thanks for clearing that. So cmpt 126,130,135 or 128 are equivalent and if I do any one of them they are considered repeated courses, thats the impression online advising gave me.
  • its a bummer actually, just because I took cmpt 126 It replaces 6 units??? What are the other lower divison courses I could take for software systems then rather than cmpt 135?
