Taking 5 courses first semester??

SO I've been debating whether to take 4 courses of 5 courses in my first semester at SFU.

I'm currently enrolled in 5 classes: Phys 100, Chem 111, Math 154, Bisc 101, and Crim 101.

Considering the fact that Phys 100 and Chem 111 are grade 12 equivalents of Physics 12 and Chem 12, I assume I'll be able to do 5 courses.

What do you guys think of this? Am I in over my head?

    if you've taken physics and chem 12, then it should be fine.  phys 100 and chem 111 should be a breeze for you and all of the other courses you've listed are pretty easy and even labelled gpa boosters.

    yeah i havent taken chem and physics 12, which is why i'm doing them now lol.

    But do you think you are strong in the subjects you listed? As in did you do well in physics and chem 12?

    Physics, Chem, Bio and Math all in the same term - damn...you must like science eh? I would die if I had to take those together. Esp for the first term,  gotta take into account university expectations vs high school, and how fast the courses go by compared to high school. Best of luck though! If you think you can do it I'm sure u can!

    In math I honestly think I can do well in it, as long as i keep up which I plan on.

    And again, the physics and chem courses are both grade 12 equivalents, so i have to take them before doing any first year chem and physics courses. 

    I do know that the jump is quite different, but considering my circumstances I'm a little confused.

    Thanks for all the input and encouragement so far! It seems like it'll be hard but I'll be able to do it

    You will go into SFU thinking you are great. You did well in high school...you are at the top of the world...how hard could university be? That's is what you think BUT that is not true. You go in there with expectations like yours and you will suffer.

    At first, everything will be alright. You'll do fine...and everything goes smoothly. Then as time passes, it gets harder and harder. There is more and more work piling up and you can't do it anymore. In order to deal with all the stress, you cut out all your fun. You stop meeting with your friends, you stop going out...all you can think about it study study study and assignments. You get consumed. You don't even have time for sleep anymore.

    So there you are stressing out alone in at home....tired. So you turn to drugs to help you stay awake. To help you think. You take those drugs and you keep taking them. But before long, you get addicted and your life turns for the worse. You fail your midterm...you lose hope. You fail the term and drop out...your life is getting worse and worse. Before you know it, you're hanging with the wrong crowd and taking drugs all the time. You run out of money....you wander through alleys alone while drunk in the late of night. You smoke, you do drugs, and you drink. You have no money so you start mugging people. You get caught cause you're drunk. So you go to prison. Your life is fucked.

    ALL BECAUSE YOU CHOSE FIVE FUCKING COURSES. Trust me, don't do it. Do you really wanna risk ruining your life over five courses just so you can finish university faster? Don't do it, kid. Stay safe and just stick with four courses.

    I think people are overreacting a little bit here. If you are good at science and math, then do it. Tons of people take 5 courses and finish the semester happy, alive, and without a drug addiction. If I were you I would give it a go, and then if things feel particularly intense after a week or two then consider dropping a course.

    Take 5 but know that during exams you'll have to prioritize which is the most important to focus on first. Know that some courses will have to suffer in this tradeoff (unless you're one of those people who prepare weeks before exam).

    If it is your first semester, do not do it.  Take it easy and get your feet wet first. You do not want to stress yourself out.  You will spend a lot of your first term orienting yourself to the University itself.  Learning where everything is and what resources are available to you.  With 5 classes you have to be on the go from day one.  If you find that your first semester was not a challenge, then try for 5 in the second term.  I have seen a lot of students take on too much and drop courses mid-semster or end up with lower grades.  Don't be in such a rush.  If you want to get ahead, there is the Summer term to take classes as well.

    honestly, being a fourth year biochemistry major those 5 classes will be too much.  it can be done, but unless you were in the top 5% at your high school then i don't recommend it.  i see people who got all A's and B's in high school barely making it into year 2 and 3 of sciences.  i realize 4 years seems like a lot but trying to rush it will only hurt your GPA.  you will probably take them and have to learn the hard way like i did.  good luck.

    First of all why are you enrolled into 111 and not 121 and why physics 100 and not 101.

    I recommend take 4 not 5. And in my opinion keep all your sciences and drop crim as you can enroll into that class whenever as it is not a priority as you seem to be a science major
