Transferring question!! SIAT->SOSY

edited July 2013 in General
Hey there everyone I'll be a IATone student starting from Sept, and they have already registered me into Cohort A courses which were IAT 100, IAT 106, and CMPT 166 (These are 3 of my first year 7 core courses). However, I sent an email to sosy advisor to see what courses I needed to take in order to transfer into sosy. So i decided to drop my CMPT 166 and take CMPT 130 (needed for sosy). So if I'm going transfer, i dont need to worry to finish my IATone core courses or is that wrong?

  • You don't need to do CMPT 166 if you are doing SOSY, however doing CMPT 166 will give you much needed programming experience to succeed in SOSY.

    Also, IAT 100 and 106 are not required in SOSY, although IAT 100 counts as a breath course.
  • Thanks for your advise! But I'm still kinda confused if i still needed to complete my IATone core courses or i can just take all SOSY courses in Spring/Summer and transfer.
  • This is what I got from the SOSY advisor.

    First Year SoSy students need to take the following courses:

    Fall: CMPT 130 & MACM 101 OR Math 150/151 must be taken.  CMPT 105W & 106 are recommended
    Spring: CMPT 135, CMPT 150 & Math 150/151 OR MACM 101 must be taken.  MSE 110 is recommended

    In order to transfer into the SoSy or Computer Science program you need to have completed 3 of the following courses, and 1 must be a Math.Macm and 1 must be a computing:
    CMPT 125, 135, 150, 225, 250, 275/276
    MACM 101, 201 Math 150/151, 152, 232
  • I don't think you need to do any IAT courses if you plan on transferring to SOSY

    Here's the graduation plan for all the courses you need to finish in order to get the degree.

  • Thanksss a lot :))
