Whether should the metal detectors applied in schools?

edited July 2013 in General
We've heard so many school shooting incidents these days. Now the society pay more attention to the security of schools. That is why the metal detectors applied in schools. Some people believe that metal detectors can be seen everywhere in today's society that they are applied in airports, stations, important conference rooms, supermarkets and many other public places where there are a large flow of people. So metal detectors are also needed in schools. What do you think?

  • We don't need metal detectors in schools. We need mental detectors in schools.

Prevention is the best medicine. Dumbasses.
  • Shout out to Dr. TC, Flog Gnaw, Dr. West etc.
  • ^there should be pat down checks for you though.
  • no, this isn't the U.S.
  • oh sure I do
  • They should just install metal detectors everywhere. Perhaps a couple heavily armed security guards at key checkpoints throughout the campus too.

Their appearance and presence would deter anything bad from happening. We should also install security cameras everywhere, including washrooms.

I was also thinking it might be a good idea to have student "agents". They could pick out specific students that have very good standing. Those that contribute a lot towards the school, through volunteering, as well as having a very high GPA. These special students would be trusted with keeping hidden guns. So if a school shooting occurs, it would be likely that an agent would be nearby to shoot down the instigator of the school shooting.
  • I agree with Beanbean, we should install mental detectors, anyone screened with a mental defect should have mandatory lobotomy.
  • ^lmao I didn't mean like that. You know what I mean. the health counselling at SFU for mental health is actually shit. They just refer you to other people from what I heard.
  • @Kevin_CMNS LMAO. Yes, and have some "out of commission" tanks and other armoured vehicles of the sort in the history department museum showcase that will be readily available with ammunition to take down any rioting students.
  • I just go straight to Fraser Health/Coastal Health where "the real doctors are"
  • the health counselling at sfu refer you to physicians who work for the school who prescribe you adderal, its great
  • centre for students with disability i mean lol
  • They should just play some Wolf Haley music in the waiting rooms and everyone will no longer need to see a fuckin' physician.
  • No they shouldn't... Did you know that there is a higher chance of being struck by lightning than being shot at school. Do you actually want to go to school everyday with the metal detector beeping off due to your belt buckle or a tin that merely contains your lunch? It's really not worth the resources or the time of the students or the school. I agree with BeAnBeAn, there should be a greater emphasis put on prevention rather than having higher security.
  • and that will give the school a bigger excuse to increase tuition fees
  • A metal detector isn't going to stop anyone who is serious about doing any harm.
  • Unless you're Bender.
  • considering how bad my high school was, sfu is pretty safe haha
  • No shit, all those "badasses" from high school got sifted out and obviously couldn't make it into SFU a super easy place to get into and are continuing doing stupid shit and being stupid.
  • @amanbassi  Let me guess, was it in Surrey?
