Can anyone provide me info about these courses and profs? 

CMPT 310 - Artificial Intelligence Survey with Jim Delgrande   
CMPT 365 - Multimedia Systems with Mark Drew   
CMPT 468 - Introduction To Computer Music And Sound with Tamara Smyth   
CMPT 419 - Special Topics In Artificial Intelligence with Greg Mori

    I've only taken 310 with Jim here's what I think:

    Lectures: Material is dry and theoretical (but not too much), not really a surprise there given that it is an AI survey. Personally, I find the topic interesting but I suppose the delivery was just lacking. Jim seems to excel in his research but he bores me to death; I must admit though that I get bored very easily. He strictly follows the textbook and slides with the occasional chalkboard use for doing examples.

    Assignments: 3/4 of the assignments involved coding algorithms, etc using a functional language called Scheme. The assignments are worth 40% and were quite straightforward; also, everyone seemed to have done well in those. 

    Exams: I would say fair but that's a subjective matter. Average for both midterm and final was about 55%-60%. Most, if not all of the exam come from the slides and textbook so as long as you keep up with the lectures and reading, you shouldn't have any problems. 

    The course is fairly "typical," nothing extreme or out of the ordinary. It's not hard to do well as long as you put in sufficient amount of work. Focus on the assignments since they make up most of your final grade and like I mentioned earlier, they're straightforward so it's worth the time to do them properly.

    what to you mean that the average was about 55%-60%? The average grade in the class??? Or the total percentage and the rest 40% was from the assignments?

    I went back to check CourSys: midterm average was about 56%, final about 57%. Assignment average 77%. Median final grade is C+. Looks fairly typical I suppose.

    From reading the outline CMPT 419 sounds quite difficult. But I suppose if you meet all of the additional requirements in the outline you might do fine.

    I took 365 last year and it was surprising difficult. It was with a different prof, but he along with drew co-wrote the book so I imagine their courses are very similar. The assignments weren't so bad, but the test averages were quite low.

    The only reason I can see anyone taking 468 is if they are interested in the subject. If you are not, I wouldnt bother.
