Kwantlen or sfu

edited June 2013 in General
I was just wondering would a employer for an accounting firm give preference to a sfu student over kwantlen or does it not matter?

  • Well does Kwantlen give out Degrees in Accounting?
  • Go to kwantlen for 2 years then transfer.
  • Yah they do and so are you saying it matters if it's a Kwantlen degree compared to SFU?
  • Go check out some CA's who are working in established accounting firms in Vancouver on Linkedin. You'll see that 99% of them are either SFU or UBC grads. That says a lot.
  • But for CGA do you think it matters ?
  • I've always gotten the sense that school reputation does often matter in accounting, whereas in most other degrees it doesn't.

Just what I hear from other people though.  I hear UBC accounting students have an advantage over SFU, so I would suspect Kwantlen is even lower.

@Amber, CA, CMA and CGA are merging into one designation (the CPA) in the coming fall. There will no longer be an easy route if you're looking to pursue accounting.
  • SFU has a top-notch reputation for accounting...a smart employer would take an sfu accounting grad over a kwantlen accounting grad (ceteris paribus)
  • cemen pubis
  • hmmm I don't know what I should get; a porsche or a toyota

Accounting is Beedie's greatest strong point imo. I don't see any reason why you would go to Kwantlen unless you're just looking to rack up a high GPA and then transfer. Even then, it's still not worth it because you miss out on one/two years of better networking at SFU.
  • pubis cemen
  • Well if you like reliable cars get a Toyota. If you have a small penis, get a Porsche.
