Well I can help you, but I'm no A+ student. There isn't really anything particular to study, it's just whether or not you understand the story and what you can understand as an implied reader.
For lectures, I jot down main theme or main discussion point discussed in class. I find that she tend to say the same thing in 100 different ways. For example, for the last story with the Lucy girl, the story doesn't mean anything in particular. It just represents an interesting writing style using stream of consciousness. She talked about the author being Mexican, and how her style relates to her minority status. For her midterm, she says she'll ask you to do paragraph comparison. She gave the "powder" story and the lucy story as an example. I can help you out if you're on campus.
