Beedie Transfer - Competitive GPA

edited April 2013 in General
I have looked around the blog and tried to look for an answer to this question but couldn't find one, so I decided to make a discussion. I apologize in advance as questions relating to this have been asked time and time again. It is slightly different here, however. I'm curious of what the GPA(s) listed actually means rather than complaining that I cannot get in or the requirements are too exclusive.

I know the minimum GPA required to be considered is around 2.9, but that honestly doesn't really seem to mean much. For example, the 2013 Spring Admission is 3.08, however, what does it mean? Is 3.08 the MINIMUM to be competitive or the recommended GPA? How are the chances of a student with 3.08 and what would you consider to be a "safe" GPA using 3.08 as the baseline?

I would just like to hear your opinions, is all. If people that have actually gone through this transfer process can contribute, that would be great. You don't have to tell me your GPA or anything, but hearing what you have to say would be very helpful.

Thanks! :D

  • Try to get all A's ! if you try your best and still don't get the offer then, then, then...then...
  • I think 3.08 was the cutoff, so if you got over 3.08 you got in
  • If it states the minimum gpa that just means that if you are above it, they will consider you. But there's only so many students they can accept so you are competing with other students who may or may not have a higher gpa. At least that's what I was told during freshman year. I wanted to apply to business too but i decided down the road it wasn't my thing.
  • I'm pretty sure as long as you meet the minimum GPA requirements, you'll be accepted. I got in with 3.12 (barely made it)
  • Wow, thanks for the feedback guys! I'm a first-year so I'm still getting to know the ins and outs of university. I'm trying my very best so the low-to-mid 3s seem quite possible, which is a big relief, to say the least.
  • As far as I know, the GPA cutoff for transferring into Beedie fluctuates every semester, depending on the number of applications in the previous semester. It usually falls anywhere between 3.1 and 3.2, with the cutoff GPA dropping a bit in the summer semester (i.e. applying for fall), because the number of applications drops. I'd say to try and keep a CGPA of at least 3.2 to maximize your chances of getting in. When I applied, the cutoff was 3.12, and I got in with over 3.2. Good luck!
  • my friends brother barely got in with a 3 last year
