stats course

edited March 2013 in General
can anyone please recommend which of that stats courses are the easiest to pass? I am enrolled in stats 203 right now and I am doing horrible and I am quite sure that I am going to fail it.

my options for next semester are to redo stats 203 which I really dont want to do, or take stats 100 or stat 101.

does anyone  know if 100 or 101 are easier than 203 and which is best to take for someone who is mathematically challenged?

thx.

  • Stat courses are numbered in kind of an unusual way that makes it difficult to judge the difficulty of the courses. stat 203 is very similar to stat 101, so if you are having trouble in 203 you likely won't find 101 easier.

stat 100 would be easier, much easier. I don't think it is considered an equivalent though for any program requirements. So you cant use 100 as a way out of doing 203.

Do you need stat 203? If so I would just stick with that.
  • I do not need stats 203 per se. I am completing a criminology major which allows students to take either

    1. psyc 210
    2. stat 100
    3. stat 101
    4. stat 203

I took 203 because it was the 'recommend course' for crim students according to the University webpage.

psyc 210 is a psyc stats course that requires alot of math, or so I hear. It is also worth 4 credits so it seems like it would be harder that 203.

so its between stat 100 or 101. I would definitely take 100 if that is the easier couse.

thanks very much for your help!
  • @lakerfanatic care to elaborate?
  • Isn't STAT 203 easier? I thought it would be easier than 100 or 101 since its Stats for art students basically
  • Well stat 100 is practically stats for nobody. It is probably a requirement for something, but I don't know what. Similarly with stat 101 really. In some cases 101 can be used as a substitute for stat 270, but I think that is only software systems.

Otherwise science/math/computing students take stat 270 or buec 232, and then the arts that require a stat usually require stat 201/203/ whatever. Stats numbering on the whole is very weird since stat 270 is the "intro statistics course" for anyone actually pursuing a degree in math.

stat 100 is a great b-sci and that is about it. You have to jump on it early though because you cant take it after taking any other intro stats course.
  • doesn't stat 100 fulfill Q also though. I'm done my two b-sci creds already
  • @ ryan.

"stat 100 is a great b-sci and that is about it. You have to jump on it
early though because you cant take it after taking any other intro stats
    course."

.. If i have taken stats 203 already but failed the course will i still be able to take stats 100?

@BeAnBeAn I think that stats 100 is both a Q and a B-Sci course according to the 2013 spring outline that i found.
  • You should still be able to take it since if you failed 203 you would not have received credit for the course. If you want to be completely certain though check with an adviser.

And yes it is also a Q.
