Course Failure vs. International Exchange?

Hello everyone,

I've slacked this semester and my grades have dropped tremendously; I think I'm about to fail one of my courses. I plan on retaking the course, but after doing a little research, I learned that the "F" will remain on my transcript even if I decide to re-do. 
I hope to go on International Exchange in the near future (Hopefully Fall of 2014), but I'm afraid universities will be put off by said F and reject my application. 

So my question is, will this F completely destroy my chances of going on Exchange or do I still have a chance?

additional info - my target institution only requires a CGPA of 2.67.

    It will remain on your transcript but it won't affect your gpa if you retake it. I think if you retake it and earn a high grade, they would look past it, as long as the rest of your grades are acceptable.
