Bursary?

edited February 2013 in General
I applied for bursary this semester and been rejected.
I explained my situation very well. I don't understand why I've been rejected.
What is the standard for bursary?

  • I applied for a bursary in fall 2012, I got rejected. I applied for it again in spring 2013, I got it.

I don't understand why I got rejected then accepted, my financial circumstances have remained the same.

My family of 4 earn $40,000 a year.
  • WHAT??????????????!???????????? @hehehe How the hell did YOU get it and not me? I applied it for 2012 as well and spring 2013 and got rejected for both yet my family makes wayyyyyyy less than you.

When I got rejected in 2012 I went to the financial aid advisor to ask why and she said bursaries are basically just to fill in the gaps after ALL resources have been dispensed of. She didn't really explain it clearly though (typical for SFU advisors) it felt like she was dodging the real reason.

@hehehe Did you take out a student loan? What did you put in that field on the application and how much will you be receiving if possible you can disclose.
  • Yea I'm really curious as to how they decide.

  • Yes I took a student loan. My parents cannot contribute to my education. I think I got the bursary due to my disability.

Ahhh I see. I also am completely on student loans too and my first semester parental contribution was $200 lol. (which wasn't really-- it was actually $0. I guess my dad just put that so he could feel better about himself lol).

Is your disability an official recognized physical disability with all that government stuff that you were able to check off on the application?
  • Yes it is a recognized disability.

  • I applied for student loans and from there they automatically assess ur eligibility for bursaries, which i got in 1k, i'm not sure about bursaries if u don't apply for student loans though
  • OH wait, i got a 1k grant not a bursary? ok nvm
