SFU conditional acceptance change?

edited February 2013 in General
I posted a discussion topic yesterday similar to this one, but I wasn't clear enough and seeing as I have no permission to edit my previous topic I'll just make a new one. Basically, I was offered conditional admission into Bachelors of English, but after doing poorly on my grade 12 English midterm I've decided not to take that course anymore. My second choice is Bachelors of History and they're both in the same department of Arts I think. I don't know what to do from here. Some have suggested I take English and transfer in my first year, but how long will I have to wait in my first year at SFU in order to transfer in. I don't want to wait like one whole year to transfer in because i would have wasted money taking English for nothing. I'm not really familiar with how this transferring process works and I haven't accepted the offer yet because it'll void my second choice that I want which is Bachelors of History. I really don't want to go Bachelors of English... Would it be possible to just call up SFU and tell them to make my second choice my first choice?

  • Just enter in English but take History courses (just like you would be a Historian major). Then transfer after first semester. Just check the requirements to transfer from English to History and take the classes required for a transfer to History
  • don't panic, most students change their minds after first year studies! you can claim your major after you finish taking some lower level courses. You just have to take history classes and claim to be a History major.. since they are in the same department, I guess you don't even have to transfer to another faculty...sweet!
