Final marks

edited December 2012 in General
I checked my go.sfu advising transcript and the system already posted up a
letter grade without the final marks for the exam posted by the prof. Does anyone know if that is the permanent
letter grade for the course, or just a temporary grade status?

It's permanent mark. It is extremely hard to change that mark.

It is extremely rude of your professor to post official marks before letting you see your exam mark.
  • If you find a mistake with your exam and your letter grade would change with the correction, your prof can fill out a form to change your letter grade. It may take a while for it to change though. I've had it happened to me.
  • Permanent. Some professors dont show you your final exam grade and just have your final mark posted to WebCT. If you that happens and you want to see your final exam you would have to talk to either your TA or professor to arrange to see it
  • Some other professors don't even post final exam marks.

Professors also have deadlines for submitting final marks, so it is not realistic to assume that anyone will get to see their exam marks before final grades need to be submitted. As was mentioned though the final marks on SIS aren't set in stone. If a mistake was made they can still change the mark.
  • Funny that you guys say that because two of my classes had the official letter grade posted already but I don't even know my final exam mark. But I guess it kind of makes sense though because both of those classes the final exam was strictly written, so it's hard to argue for those.

I already caught some mistakes on other exams though but it's usually only one mark, I doubt it'd make a difference.
  • i think written is the easiest to argue for marks, no?
  • Well I guess it depends the way you look at it. Multiple may be easy if they just marked it wrong is what I meant but written parts especially long answer is left solely to the marker and it is hard to find a really concrete error in marking that you can have rectified.
