Academic Probation.................. D;

edited December 2012 in General
Hi, I'm a second year business student. I first enrolled last year for Fall 2011. My GPA for Fall 2011 was above 2.00. However, in the end of Spring 2012, I was on academic probation (yeahh, i screwed myself over). I took a summer vacation so I didn't enroll for Summer 2012. I enrolled again for Fall 2012.

I've read through the SFU website and discussions from this website of how long I can stay on academic probation and how to get off of it. I know my academic standing depends on my term GPA and my cumulative GPA (CGPA). So if both my term GPA and CGPA is above 2.00, I'll be on Good Academic Standing.

I've read from the SFU website that a student can be on Continued Academic Probation (CAP) "for as long as it takes for them to attain a Term GPA of 2.00 or higher." But I also read from a discussion in this website that a student can only be on academic probation for two semesters (for example Fall and Spring) and has one more term (Summer) to be in Good Academic Standing, otherwise they will be required to withdraw.

If my CGPA was below 2.00 for one term (spring 2012) and my term GPA for Fall 2012 is above 2.00 but CGPA is below 2.00, will i be on continued academic probation (CAP)? And then I have Spring 2013 to boost both my CGPA and term GPA above 2.00? But since I was on academic probation for one term in Spring 2013, if both my term GPA and CGPA for Fall 2012 is below 2.00, will I still be on academic probation and only have Spring 2012 to get into good academic standing...or will i be required to withdraw.....?

But on http://students.sfu.ca/academicadvising/difficulty.html, it says a student can be on Continued Academic Probation if:
Term GPA ≥ 2.000 AND CGPA < 2.000 oTerm GPA < 2.000 AND CGPA ≥ 2.000
and they can be one CAP until they're in good academic standing or required to withdraw..

Im so confused here.... fuck.

  • Basically if you have 2 terms with ONLY the term GPA below 2. You will be required to withdraw. You will remain on academic probation until your cumulative GPA is greater than 2.
  • Sooo... if my term GPA for Fall 2012 is below 2.00, then it's byebye business? D;
  • not only byebye business.. bye bye sfu, you will have to either complete the back on track program or complete courses at another college/university and then apply to transfer back. you should really rethink your major if you are having problems to this extent.
  • ohhh suddenly my head hurts........
  • Good luck, I just got off academic probation this semester.. I switched majors, thats what I did to bring up my gpa.
  • Thank you :) and no worries for me anymore. I passed :D
  • LOL Congratz! I know how it feels to wait for results....
