Missed Final Exam

edited December 2012 in General
I thought the final for my distance course was tomorrow... I just went onto goSFU to check the time and it turns out it was LAST FRIDAY! I have no idea how I screwed up the dates like that... Has anyone been in this situation before? Who should I contact, CODE or the professor? What should I say?!

If I get a 0 on the exam I'd still get a C in the course so it wouldn't be the end of the world... but an F would be! What a nightmare :(

  • Distance education courses require you to complete every aspect of the course otherwise you'll receive a N
  • Talk to CODE right away! they may let you rewrite it in January, the sooner you speak with them, the more likely it is.
  • Time to pull out your best pen and get your doctor's note forging on. Joking. Don't do that because it's better to get an N and re-take the course than to get an FD (Fail With Dishonour!!!). Pretty good that you manage to get a C even with a 0% on the final, that's amazing.
  • I think you can appeal to the CODE but I think it's just best to do it again, you should be able to get a better mark this time since you have all the notes!
  • i dunno what the 2 above me are going on about, but your best bet is to explain your situation to CODE and/or the prof asap and see if anything can be done.

I feel like they'd be more willing to try to accommodate you, someone who was clearly doing fine in the course (as opposed to someone doing shitty in a course and trying to gain an advantage or something)

http://code.sfu.ca/student_handbook/exams_and_grades not terribly promising, but there's still hope (and a 50$ fee!)
  • I missed an exam this semester ( not distance ed though) and I talked to my Prof right away, and he's allowing me to right it in January. Just saying it does happen, so don't go to the thought of retaking before you try.
  • Well yes given a second thought if you are able to persuave your prof to let you take it in January I think that would to be on your advantage coz you have the entire month to prepare for it!
  • EricJ, I was going on about not forging a note like some have done and that is better to get an N than a FD for the course and conveying that through a joke. Then I commended him on his ability to do so well in the course thus far.
  • I missed a midterm if that counts :/

I still think I'l pass, but from a guaranteed B or B+ I'l end up with a C or even C- (hopefully at least a C-, don't know how the scaling works, and even if I get 60%-65% I'l still fail because I'm the last)
