Average Grade Needed for Computer Science

edited November 2012 in General
hi, I am applying to computer science for fall 2013. I was wondering what kind of grades do you need to get in safely? I currently have 86% (final) on physics 12 and 86% on Pre Calc 12 (not final mark). I am not taking English 12 or another acceptable course till next semester. Thanks

  • I'd say that you are the borderline.

Here's what I had in highschool. I'm currently in my first year at SFU

    Physics 91%
    Math 88%
    Law 91%
    English 83%.

Remember, try doing one grade 12 approved course to bump up your average percentage. The average cutoff last year was 86%.
  • Was it really 86? For comp sci? It was only a few years ago that they gave applied sciences early acceptance to anything over 80%. I guess since they have gotten rid of most mandatory provincials the average may be higher now though.

Either way I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. Just keep doing what your doing, don't slack off, and you should be fine.
  • I was going to do history for the extra course needed. BTW does it matter if you take comp sci at surrey or at burnaby?
  • Nope. You would just apply to comp sci at sfu then when it came to enroll in courses you can choose to take them in surrey, burnaby, or both.

Unless you look into software systems. It contains first year courses that are only offered in Surrey.
  • I suggest you do software systems, it is more hands on and focused on software development. Computer science is more theoretical and you a lot more stuff, but you don't apply it.
