burnaby vs. surrey

Hi folks,

I am a new student transferring from queen university. I will be taking engineering courses and they are offered in both sfu burnaby and sfu surrey.
But im still wondering what the differences are between these two campuses. I mean in term of social life, clubs, restaurants, and professors.

    If you're looking for student life/clubs/events I'd definitely suggest SFU Burnaby. SFU Surrey is more of a commuter school than the Burnaby location so people will tend to just attend class and then go home, it also doubles as a small shopping centre so space is a little tight. As for professors, both will vary at any of the given campuses depending on the course... I'd hate to recommend it but ratemyprof will give you a good idea how certain profs are at SFU.

    Also keep in mind that both campuses are very close to one another. So you could take courses at both, or take courses at one and spend most of your time out at the other.

    If you want to feel like a prison inmate- Burnaby

    If you want to feel like a community college student- Surrey

    Haha jk, but that's what a lot of people complain about anyway. I'm mostly at Surrey but have classes in Burnaby too. Basically what the other people said is true. I find that you can feel a sense of community both at Surrey and Burnaby too, because Surrey is much smaller.

    Don't expect a club/party life when you're attending SFU, it's really not that type of university. Both have decent pub nights though.

    Burnaby is the older, big campus with many people.
    Surrey is the smaller, new campus with fewer people.
