Psyc 102, Engl 105, or Phil 100?

edited November 2012 in General
So for spring semester I'm looking for a relatively easy W or breadth-social sciences/humanities course. I haven't taken psychology in high school and i did not take psyc 100 this semester, do you think I'll be okay taking psyc 102 (with Arthur Alder)? I would take psyc 100 but it's at 4:30 and i don't want to stay on campus for that long. So far my other choices are Eng 105 with David Coley (really good reviews on ratemyprofessor.com), and Phil 100 with David Heide. I'm open to other suggestions too, just looking to fulfill some of the breadth requirements.

  • Try IAT 100. Easy course.
  • If your looking for a relatively easy writing course I would recommend POL 101W with Heard. I took it distance education and there were two essays, a midterm (worth only 10% of your grade), online discussions and a final. For social science courses I would recommend PSYC 102 only if your willing to read the textbook every week. Alder's tests and based on the chapters and not necessarily on his notes so reading the textbook (which is lengthy) is a must, keep in mind his tests have correction for guessing. As for Philosophy courses, they can be difficult for sure, not always an "easy GPA booster"

  • I've taken both PSYC 100 and 102 with Russell Day. Really good prof that had the same format in both classes. If I remember correctly though. PSYC 100 was a little more interesting to me. 102 might be easier with 100, but shouldn't be a problem. Engl 105 was also fair. Not a big deal if you take it.

I've never taken Phil 100 before, but from what I know, Philosophy is a tough topic to talk about. I heard from a friend, an exam question would be "How do we know we exist?" or something like that. Mind f*ck
