help info about ECON102

edited November 2012 in General

Hi

I will transfer to SFU in winter. I'm thinking to take ECON102. Does it has requirements ?

when I went to SIS for enrolment, I read this note under ECON102

Enrollment restrictions are indicated by an asterisk (*) next to the course section. Upper division required courses (301, 302, 305, 355W, BUEC 333 & 400 level) are reserved for students approved in Economics Honours/Joints/Majors. For other 300 level Economics electives, students intending to register must have an approved Economics program, OR have a minimum SFU CGPA of 2.60. Students may not register in more than one 400 ECON/BUEC courses towards their degree unless previously cleared by the Economics Advisor. Prerequisites for any course may be waived for individual students by the department. In order for a course to be accepted as fulfilling a prerequisite, a student must have obtained a grade of C- or higher. Students attempting a course for the first time shall be given the opportunity to register prior to any students who have already attempted a course or who have passed the course with a C- or better. Students wishing to repeat a course who have C- or better should see the Economics advisor for permission. Tutorials will not be held during the first week of classes.

thanks

  • It doesn't have any specific requirements, no. The only restriction is that enrolment is reserved for students in a Surrey program until November 24th. Otherwise the rest of that text is stuff that appears on all economic courses.
  • thanks Ryan that was a useful & fast reply
I see so I could enroll in ECON 102 next semester

    thanks again :)
  • yea no requirements. i don't recommend that course though...
  • Thanks Tillerm, this coure is require to enter my major so I have no choise. does it has alot of calculations or remembering stuff?  as a friend told me it's like the history of econmy
  • I am also curious as to why you don't recommend it. I was planning to take it as an elective.
  • there is a few calculations but it isn't even close to a Q requirement class.

i took the course intended to be a gpa booster. i had previously taken econ 103 and 105 so my expectations were high. almost everyone in the class had done the same so it was extremely competitive. the work load was minimal which was nice. exams were a lot tougher than expected. more theory and memorization than anything. the material covered was somewhat interesting. really depended on the week.

if you plan on taking it because econ interests you and you have already taken 103 and 105 then it would be fine. if it is to boost your gpa i wouldnt suggest it. if you want credits with minimal amount of effort than by all means go for it!

i still have my textbook available for sale for cheap if anyone wants to buy it when the time comes
