Anybody taken any of these upper level crim courses?
Hi, I'm signed up for crim 312 (criminological perspectives on social problems-with Neil Boyd), crim 315 (restorative justice-with Brenda Morrison), crim 332 (sociology of law-with Chantal Faucher) and crim 334 (law and human reproduction with-with Brian Burtch). Can anybody tell me anything about these courses? Thanks!

i took CRIM 315 in Fall 2011. everyone seems to say it's "easy" but our whole class average was either a D or a C- for first batch of journal entries. i suspect the reason they ended up being so low is because everyone thought it was going to be easy based on what they've heard. that is totally mistaken though the journals require a lot of work and time invested to do well.
what they basically want is for you to try and make connections between the textbook, the journal articles and the DVD viewings. make some connections and try to give your opinion based on the evidence available (critical thinking) and not just "i feel blah blah" without referring to the course material whatsoever. if you can make those connections and arguments i'm confident you will get an A.
the lectures are pretty boring but they have i-clicking to keep track of attendance and participation. the tutorials, however, are very fun. you basically play games the whole time (as in role-playing games you would in high school). remember that is also required to refer to the tutorials in your journals and if you can refer to anything raised in lecture (for example, guest speakers), even better.
