What's the big deal about Business?

edited July 2012 in General
It seems like many students are working so hard in wanting to get into the business faculty, just wondering why everyone see's it as such a prestigious degree? My problem is that I entered into business through high school, but I've hated all my classes thus far. They've made me miserable and I want to transfer out. Just want to hear some other opinions because I'm scared to give it up. Going into my second year in September...if I transfer out then change my mind, I don't have the high enough grades to transfer back in...

  • One or more of the following:

    1. Cause they think they're gonna get a $50,000 min job when they get out.

    2. It's required for professional designations

    3. Cause their parents told them to
  • Business isn't for everyone. If you don't like it, then don't pursue it.
  • Because capitalism LOL
  • Go ahead make fun of the rest of us who have Arts and Social Science majors
  • AHAHAHAHAH ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
  • 4. They see that everyone else is striving to get into business, so they flock to it so they don't miss out on where the gold potentially is.
  • i like business because it applies to all fields. no matter what field you work in, there is always a management component to things so having a business background is very beneficial. i did my bachelors degree in science but i would love to go back to sfu and do a gdba
  • 5. They are interested in some aspect of business

Why not take a semester to try other courses and explore your interests. Don't waste money and time on something you hate.
  • I transferred out of business. Seems to me a business program is more about attaining "a certain professional attitude" than any other tangible skill.
  • In business because I am actually interested in business? Trying to pick electives to enroll in and nothing interests me besides econ.
  • Going into your second year means you've barely taken any business classes if at all any. I don't recall any business 100 classes. But back to the point, who cares why others want to enter? Pursue your interest and live your life, not others.

p.s. for those who laugh at arts and social sciences are quite frankly... ignorant. And for those who are ashamed of  arts and social sciences, well... more ignorant.
  • Maybe talk to someone in Academic Advising:

    http://students.sfu.ca/academicadvising.html

about different programs at SFU, which you might not even have thought of.  Don't go through  a program you can't stand...
