Co-Op

edited January 2012 in General
Hi all,

Just wondering how many of you guys are searching for a summer co-op position this semester. How is it going so far? Any tips for first timers, especially Arts students (criminology) would be greatly appreciated.

What is the lighting round?
Does the co-op coordinators send out the documents to employers after the deadline?

Thanks,
Happy spring semester (Cold!)

  • I'm a current CS co-op student. I didn't get any interviews till December. (3 from the lightning round and 1 other one from right before the lightning round)

The lightning round starts shortly before classes end (so probably the very end of march or beginnig of april), and yeah, the co-op coordinators will apply for stuff for you during lightning round, based on your interests and abilities...

Depending on your department there is probably some prereqs to be eligible for lightning round, in my case i had to send out a minimum of 5 job applications before the start of the lightning round. (which is nothing really, just enough to weed out the people who didn't give it any time)
  • I definitely recommend Co-Op to anyone that is thinking of doing it. When you graduate from SFU you have the education, but you also need experience for employers to take you seriously. Very important to do co-op or you will waste a lot of time trying to get experience after your graduate!
  • Is the Summer semester after second year too late to start Co-Op?
  • It's not too late.
  • I know it is still early in the semester but dam...its so hard to get a job for an arts student!!!!!
  • Good prep for our whole lives I guess, eh? ^

    :P

But for real, (and I don't mean to steal your thread) has anybody here done an Econ co-op?
