Transferring from Kwantlen to SFU

edited December 2011 in General
Just a quick question, not sure if anyone can help me with this here. I'm planning to apply to SFU for the summer after completing just under 60 credits at Kwantlen towards my criminology degree. Too much of a nuisance to try to finish my Associates here with trying to fit one class in and what not. So decided to forget it and transfer as soon as possible. On the website it says you need a GPA minimum of 2.0..but i'm sure it's higher than that. Anybody know what my GPA would have to be at to be accepted?

Thanks.

  • 2.0 is a minimum. Your gpa has to be competitive compared to other applicants.
  • How competitive?
  • Dunno about criminology but computer science has a minimum of 2.5, I got in with 2.8 when I transferred from Kwantlen.
  • If you finish your Associates then you're pretty much guaranteed admission since they have some priority.  When I transferred from Douglas my advisor was saying there were a few people that actually got into the Arts faculty with GPAs just below 2.0
  • Thanks a lot guys! I want to complete my Associates but I feel like it's a waste to stick around for just 2 classes when I'd much rather take 4. If I don't get accepted for the summer semester then it will be my only option. My GPA is about 3.0. Someone told me they didn't get accepted with a 3.5 but it just doesn't seem possible with the information I've obtained online so far.

Craig did you transfer with your Associates?
  • Yes I did transfer after finishing my Associate of Arts.  Majoring in Economics right now.
  • I've talked to several people who transferred with associate degrees and if you're that close, finish it up.
While I understand that you don't want to 'waste' a semester only taking 2 classes, why don't you look into filling out some breadth courses at Kwantlen. Most majors only require 45 upper division classes (or less) to be taken at SFU - so if you fill out the classes at Kwantlen you'll be going at the same rate regardless.
Priority enrollment is choice if you can get it too - which if you transfer without your associates, you won't.
