CMNS Minor?

edited October 2011 in General
Hi everyone, right now  i am in the political science major program (almost done all my courses for a pol sci minor), but i have realized that maybe i want to do a minor in poli science and do a major in communications. I have only taken 2 CMNS courses . so i am wondering should i stick to my pol major and do a minor in CMNS or should i do a major in CMNS and do pol as a minor?

any feedback?

  • I started my Bachelors assuming that I would do a double major in Political Science and Psychology. But then at the end of my second year I decided that I also really liked English. And Philosophy. So despite the fact that I have all the lower level requirements for majoring in both POLI and PSYC (and a few upper level credits), I am actually majoring in English and minoring in Philosophy. I am in my last year now, and plan to go to grad school in a field related to English. I am so glad I switched. It significantly changed my life!

What I would recommend you do is take an entire semester of communications classes. That way you can decide if your interest in communications is real or if you perhaps have an idealized vision of what it's really like. As long as you don't have to take more than 120 credits to graduate, I don't see any problem with exploring your options though!

You might also want to look into the SFU "double extended minor" program.
