I'm heading into 4th year MBB and would like your input into which 400 level MBB courses are interesting/easy/worth taking. Btw, how's the workload for MBB 426 and MBB 427?
I'm taking MBB 435 and MBB 423 right now, and they both seem to be fairly straightforward. MBB 435 is definitely easier, although the grading scheme can be somewhat frightening (30% midterm, 70% final). Dr. Baillie basically tells you what's going to be on the exams (25% are glossary terms, 50% questions similar to problem sets and 25% new questions). MBB 423 isn't really too difficult, although there are two midterms, a quiz, an assignment, iclicker questions and a final (keeping caught up is important). Workload wise, they're both very manageable.
I would recommend MBB 438: Human Molecular Diseases, but it is not offered in the summer. IMO 438 is fun, and its not very exam intense, the grading scheme (when I took it) is 50% (1 MT), 5% presentation participation, 20% presentation, 25% essay on presentation topic. MBB 441: Bioinformtics. Everyone said that 441 is an easy credit, the average of the class was pretty high. Down side of it is I didnt really learn anything from the course.
BSang must be a very briliant person. I know many people that screw up on their second midterm!! To be honest, I barely understand what is Dr Young teaching in lecture, and I miraclly did OK on MT2!
MBB 432 <- a lab course. iff u enjoy taking lab, which I think u should since ure in the MBB
I missed the lecture when the second midterms were handed back. Did Dr. Young tell you guys the average? I found that exam fairly difficult, mostly because a lot of it was applying knowledge. I ended up doing well on it though.
Having had written the finals and gotten the results, I found MBB 435 very easy compared to MBB 423. If you study the problem sets, memorize the glossary terms and skim the textbook, MBB 435 is an easy A.
