Buec 232, Bus 272, Bus 254 in one semester?

edited January 2011 in General
what do you guys think? Profs are michael johnson, stacey fitzsimmons, bob anderson respectively.
Can i take those 3 + 1 non bus elective in a semester? I am considering this because I'd like to take
207 alone in the summer.

  • I think it sounds manageable. Johnson is supposed to be the best BUEC 232 prof, and it isn't very hard of a class anyways. Just have to be weary of the high class averages, because the curve can screw you in that class. I myself took it in the fall with George Zhang. I got above-average on the first midterm, just slightly below-average on the second one, and went into the final thinking I was gonna do quite bad and I walked out with a B+. Very minimal amount of math, just need to understand how to apply formulas to certain problems. First half of the course was painfully easy, but it started getting harder around confidence intervals and significance tests.

Stacey was a fantastic prof for 272! If you work hard with your group on the group case study/presentation and are good at memorization for the exams, you should do well. Stacey was really nice, she even sent me an email to congratulate me on doing well in her class once the term was over. She's still a PhD student, but she gives a lot of great examples and made me want to do HRM as one of my concentrations (I want to do two) :)

And I am in your 254 class with Anderson this term. I'm hoping it isn't too bad. I did well in 251 with Anne MacDonald, but I'm not a fan of accounting.

Overall, you just have to work hard. If you don't put some effort in, the curve will screw you anyways. It also depends what type of thinker you are. I am good with memorization, applying concepts, writing, and that type of stuff, so that term would be more than okay for me. On the other hand, I suck with math and stuff like that. In the fall I took MATH 157, ECON 103, BUEC 232, and BUS 237, and I suffered with MATH and ECON throughout the term.
  • Oh wow, wall of text much? :P
  • Thanks Desolate! Btw, I took 251 with Anderson, he's a great prof!
  • That's good to hear! :D

I had two friends that took 251 with him last term, but I haven't really asked them yet about what they thought of him.
  • what did u think of midterm Desolate? I did terrible....I think im going to try and find a tutor.
  • I'm in the same boat. LOL Not looking forward to getting it back.

I know I could have studied harder probably, but I did all of the practice midterms and read the textbook and looked over the tutorial questions, and I had quite a bit of trouble. I was hoping for stuff more like 251, like how to write up a schedule of cost of goods sold and stuff. Thankfully I have seven days between my other finals and this one, so I have a ton of study time for it!
  • I honestly think it depends. Like Desolate mentions, everyone's learning style can be very different. He might find out Stacey is really helpful but my group all think she is confusing in 400 level class.

I think the course load is manageable.  if you are already a BUS student, you pretty much know the workload.

Just wanna share my experience, usually I would like to diversify my classes each term, in order to not get bored on too much memorizing or quantitative stuffs. While, it all depends, right?
  • Was it a bad idea to bump up an old thread?

@desolate, i feel so much better knowing im not the only one! ty!
