Anyone taken CHIN 100?

edited October 2010 in General
To preface this topic, I'm Caucasian and English is my native language. I know some French, since I took that in high school from grade 8 to grade 11.

I am worried that I will not do well. Is the class friendly enough for someone that has no knowledge of Mandarin? I know even having some knowledge of other Asian languages is often useful, but can I overcome that handicap? I'm willing to work hard, I just don't want to walk into something that I'll absolutely not understand in the slightest.

My friend is gonna take it with me, so that I'll have someone to study and practice conversations with. So that may help, but since there aren't many spots in the class, he might not get in because his enrollment date isn't until the 17th or 18th. We'll have to wait and see how that works out.

Thanks in advance :)

  • i take chin 190 but i considered 100

it's very basic and when i asked the prof he said this class was designed for ppl who have absolutely no experience in chinese

you can google his lesson plan and see if you like it...i personally saw it online before the semester started, it was pretty basic but that might just be me
  • Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity, do you have any previous knowledge of the language, or are you like me in having no prior experience?
